My Gear

Here is a list of most of my camera gear that I use for my landscape and travel (holiday) photography.

It’s taken me a few years to build up and I have always stuck with Nikon and the other manufacturers mentioned.  I have found these to be very reliable in all weather conditions.

My 3 main landscape lenses are all second hand which I bought through MPB and have had no issues in terms of quality and performance.

Landscape gear

Nikon D810 Camera – My latest camera with awesome picture quality and dynamic range.

Nikon 16 – 35mm f/4 – fantastic wide angle lens

Nikon 24 – 70mm f/2.8 – my go to all-round lens

Nikon 70 – 200mm f/4 – great for distant and detailed scenes

Lee Filters – Landscape Poloriser and a range of ND & GND filters kept neatly in the Lee field pouch.  These get a fair bit of use as I like to capture the image as best I can in-camera.

Lowepro Protactic 450 AW II Backpack – fits all my landscape gear in safely and securely.  This is my third Lowepro bag as my kit has evolved.  Tip: Buy the biggest bag you can or at least bigger than you think you need because as your kit grows, which it will, you’ll need the larger size to get it all in.

Manfrotto 055 3-section Carbon Fibre Tripod – very sturdy and reliable both on land and in water (always gets a hose down when it’s been in the sea).

Manfrotto XPRO Ball head (Arca-Swiss top plate) – secure and easy to set-up that great composition.

Sirui L-Bracket – great bit of kit when changing from landscape to portrait orientation (& vice-versa).  Also great when using heavier lenses as this avoids the camera slipping downwards during shots / long exposures.

Cable release – avoids touching the shutter release avoiding camera shake. Essential for long exposures past 30 seconds too.

Sandisk 16GB & 32GB cards – always have these in my bag and haven’t let me down yet.

Travel (holiday) gear

Fujifilm X100S Camera – also from MPB.  Great fixed lens camera, ideal for travel.

Manfrotto Be-Free tripod – packs up nice and small (& light too).

Manfrotto Speed-10 Manhattan Messenger bag – fits all my travel gear in and is cabin friendly.

Film gear

Nikon F100 Camera – DSLR like controls and is compatible with my latest lenses.

Nikon FA Camera – Semi-automatic modes with TTL metering.

Nikon F Camera – An iconic fully manual camera.  I was very pleased when I saw this on-line and bought it straight away.

Nikon AI-S prime lenses – 24mm, 35mm & 50mm.

Film stocks – I mainly shoot with Kodak’s Portra 400 and Tri-X.

Lee black & white contrast filters

Sekonic light meter – a basic hand held meter which is great for reading incident & reflective light.

Post Processing

Adobe Creative Cloud – Lightroom Classic & Photoshop CC 2019

Apple iMac 27” 5K Retina Display

Western Digital Portable Hard drives – I use 3 of these for back-ups

G-Technology 4TB external hard drive – all my RAW files are stored on this drive.

Printing

Canon Pro-10S printer – fantastic quality printer.  All my available prints are produced using this printer and Canon OEM inks.

Fotospeed papers – NST Bright White 315, Cotton Etching 305, Platinum Cotton 305, Platinum Gloss Art Fibre 300 and Platinum Baryta 300.

Datacolor Spyder 5 Pro – essential for colour management and easy to use.
